As Halloween approaches you may be considering a way to entertain some of your friends, without needing to invest a lot of money or make reservations at a public venue. A team murder mystery game that incorporates a multi-course meal will give your guests ample time to relax, enjoy a nice meal, and remain entertained throughout the evening.

The Game 

Shop for a spooky-themed murder mystery game from a toy store, a novelty shop, or a party supplier. Some deluxe murder mystery games may include invitations, clues, scorecards, and some props that can be used throughout the gameplay.

An overview of a game will include the location where a murder takes place. If the location is a specific country or city, you can come up with a dinner menu that coincides with the cuisine that is typically eaten there. If the location relates to a room type or a distinct indoor setting, you could also decorate your dining room to resemble the room or setting.

Fill out the invitations and request that your invitees RSVP by a specific date. Assign character roles during the preparation of the invitations. This will prevent more than one guest from requesting the same role.

The Dinner, The Show, And The Gameplay

The murder mystery story may contain several acts. To ensure that each act receives the attention it deserves, plan on executing each one after a dinner course has been served. Different guests may need to act out a role during some or all of the scenes.

Any dialog that is going to be read aloud can be given to your guests in advance. To make the dining room seem somewhat eerie, light candles and place them on the table. Serve each course in a manner that looks somewhat spooky. For example, if the murder mystery game contains a storyline that revolves around a stabbing, use red icing or red sauce to garnish various dishes.

When your guests arrive, split them up into teams, regardless of what part they have been assigned. Request that the team members sit next to one another, while seated at the dining room table. If you want to provide the members of each team with privacy, set individual teams at separate tables.

After each act has been executed, encourage your guests to mingle with one another and to interrogate those who they think may be the murderer. Allow several minutes for questioning and answer sessions. At the end of the game, instruct each team to provide the name of the guest who they think played the role of the murderer.
